Dan Lane - Heavy is the Head That Wears the Crown

Dan Lane brings us yet more stunning, dark and thoughtful pieces, based on his signature skulls, mixed with elements designed to lift the viewer, and make them think twice. 'Heavy is the Head That Wears the Crown' is a flatbed giclée on glass, available in a marble or silver leaf finish, either singly or as a set of two, which make an incredible impact.

About this new piece, Dan says: "'Heavy Is The Head That Wears The Crown' is bold and dramatic, yet the title suggests an element of humbleness. The saying that was used for the title has been spoken in many ways by many people over the years. Its initial meaning was obviously the worries of a king, queen or leader but I believe we are all equal and the leaders of our own lives. Every now and then we have things that challenge or worry us, and that's OK."

'When All is Equal' is a bronze version of Dan's sold-out sculpture which was originally created in polished stainless steel. Its bronze incarnation offers a mellower, but no less stunning, take on Dan's view of his view on man's relationship with the natural world. "I wanted to create a sculpture that showed that mankind and the natural world can live in balance and harmony as equals. Nature has never taken from us, yet we have exploited nature's generosity."

Heavy Is The Head That Wears The Crown - Set of Two £1,750

Elegantly portrayed on glass, in these bold and luxurious limited editions, Dan Lane revisits some of his beloved themes from his earlier work. In "Heavy Is The Head That Wears The Crown", the artist fuses his classical baroque sculpture style and the drama they convey with his own style and its iconic elements. Depicted in Iron and Silver Leaf or Marble, the pieces are bold and dramatic, with the title evoking an element of humbleness and simplicity.

When All Is Equal (Bronze) £2,950

A limited-edition sculpture with Polished Bronze on a Black Granite Base.

"When All Is Equal" is a re-release of the iconic stainless-steel sculpture originally created for his 2021 Modern Relics collection. This polished bronze on a black granite base edition of the poignant sculpture portrays an ethereal hummingbird hovering above the fingertips of the sculpture, as well as on the cherry blossom tattoo that grows up the arm like a branch.

This iconic piece resembles the arms of some of the most classical works from Baroque and Renaissance masters whilst featuring the artist most popular symbols - the hummingbird for example, symbolises how fragile the natural world is and it's used significantly by the artist.

The sculpture symbolises the delicate balance that can exist between nature and mankind, represented by the arm reaching out to hold a single flower for the hummingbird to feed from it.
